MORE ABOUT ME
My name is Stephen and I started training at Wilkes Martial Arts in 2008. I decided to start because I saw a UFC event where Brock Lesnar got submitted by Frank Mir. At this point I realised I wanted to train in mixed martial arts.
When I arrived at Wilkes Martial Arts it was very different from what I expected – it wasn’t this “tough guy” gym, it was an approachable family environment where people of all ages and interests could train.
As a coach I emphasise technical proficiency and fundamentals over flashy techniques. I enjoy creating a light hearted atmosphere when training as it can break the tension for newer students that can find martial arts quite intimidating.
