MORE ABOUT ME
My name is Stephen and I started training at Wilkes Martial Arts in 2008. I decided to start because I saw a UFC event where Brock Lesnar got submitted by Frank Mir. At this point I realised I wanted to train in mixed martial arts.
When I arrived at Wilkes Martial Arts it was very different from what I expected – it wasn’t this “tough guy” gym, it was an approachable family environment where people of all ages and interests could train.
When I decided that I wanted to compete seriously the instructors were more than happy to help me achieve my goals by putting in the extra time to sharpen my skills. They put in all this extra time despite the fact that Wilkes martial arts doesn’t typically partake in the competitive scene. Thanks to their help I have achieved a state championship in both MMA and Jiu Jitsu. Due to their influence I also strive now as an instructor to help all students in any way possible.
