MORE ABOUT ME
I first started martial arts in 2013 after looking for something to challenge me in fitness and keep me interested. I didn’t want to just go to the gym and work out by myself doing the same exercises and routine each time. I needed something to keep me motivated and keep me coming back. I had done boxing and personal training for years which I loved so I wanted to find something to combine both of these and more. I booked an introductory class but had to cancel it about 3 or 4 times due to work or other things (including crashing my car…) and it was only with the persistence from Mr Wilkes that I decided I had better not cancel again and let him down!
I can honestly say that from day one I knew that this was going to be life changing for me.
My children also share my passion now and train 2-3 times a week in their own classes. When I ask them what they would like to do for the day on the weekend it’s often “Can we go to the gym?” They have met some great friends there and it’s so lovely to see all the kids – either of parents training or siblings of those on the mat all play together on the side. Its one big family and everyone is looked after and cared about.
In 2019 I married my best friend David Wilkes! So it certainly was a life changing experience for me walking into this place!
These days I am always studying to keep up with the latest in SnC and what I love most about my role at Wilkes now is training some of our guys in SnC for their MMA comps as well as running some group fitness classes and assisting in Adults FMA classes. After all these years I still love going to the gym and seeing the dedicated people, sharing a laugh and enjoying the incredible friendships I have made. I know I now have a special interest in this place but I can honestly say that I am super proud of Wilkes Martial Arts and everyone that trains here. I have trained in many gyms and many different places and it is here that makes me feel home because of the people.
