MORE ABOUT ME

I started martial arts in 2005 after seeing how much fun my younger brother was having in classes. With the help of my instructors I was able to increase my confidence and self-defence skills.

As I progressed, I wanted to share my martial arts experience with other students just as my instructors Mr. Fairman, Mr. Pusch, and Mr. Wilkes had done for me. I became an assistant on classes at orange belt and was moved up to the senior’s class when I reached purple belt. It was like nothing I had experienced before. The fitness and syllabus requirements were far more difficult than the 14-17’s class, but over time my sparring, techniques and fitness all improved.

Achieving my black belt was a goal of mine since I was a white belt. I started out admiring those who had worked hard to achieve their high rank, and now I get to say that I have worked hard for it too. My belt represents everything that I have trained for and the tenets that I believe in.

Teaching is one of my favourite things, especially for the kids as I get to help the younger generation to set a great example, guide their behaviour in a positive way and teach them how to defend themselves. When I started training I could not do public speaking at all, now find myself at the front of a class, sometimes teaching over 30 people!

Martial arts has given me the confidence to teach and to voice my own opinions. I am always looking to challenge and better myself. It’s not just for me but also for the benefit my students, so I can offer them more in their training.
